UCI Law’s annual student-run symposium—“Critical Perspectives on the Drug War”.
Diane will speak on the “Alternatives to Incarceration” panel.
The event will feature a keynote speaker and four panels throughout the day (two in the morning followed by lunch, and two in the afternoon followed by a wine and cheese reception) with networking breaks in-between the panels. Each panel will have roughly 4 speakers and one moderator, so that all of our guests have the same amount of time to speak. The topics will include: (1) Alternatives to Incarceration; (2) Legalization Efforts; (3) Medical and Scientific Perspectives; and (4) Emerging Industries and Opportunities. Our keynote speaker will set a serious tone by discussing the disparate racial impact of U.S. drug policies and explaining how the War on Drugs has become the “New Jim Crow.”
