Main The Travels of the Tan Cowboy Hat Finale ( 1230 reads) Tuesday, November 04, 2008 (15:00:24)

In fairness to the hat, I did not wear it as much as I could have. I'm not nearly as tall or as animated as Howard but I am just about as shy as he is. Bottom line, the hat did not get a fair test. The button, the tee shirt, and the shyness all worked together and resulted in about fifty conversations over 21 days of travel through CO, WY, ID, WA, OR, CA, AZ & NM. Several people approached me and said, "Why?"; others said it with their eyes and listened while I vocalized the response. Not one person disagreed. I had hotel desk clerks in several states and waiters in San Francisco all initiate "the conversation". Elevators are good training because most of the hotels we stayed in were less than 5 or 6 stories. The development of concise responses is an absolute must.

Agreement is cheap and easy. Action requires effort, energy and even in the chaos of our economy funding. I encourage everyone, just as I encouraged everyone, to get active, call law makers and officials, and send some tax deductible donations to LEAP.

It will make you feel as if you've made a contribution to the effort - you will have - and it will make Jack Cole smile. It's a twofer.
