Legalized Regulation of all Drugs!

COPS SAY LEGALIZE DRUGS!
ASK US WHY
After nearly four decades of fueling the U.S. policy of a war on drugs with over a trillion tax dollars and 37 million arrests for nonviolent drug offenses, our confined population has quadrupled making building prisons the fastest growing industry in the United States. More than 2.2 million of our citizens are currently incarcerated and every year we arrest an additional 1.9 million more guaranteeing those prisons will be bursting at their seams. Every year we choose to continue this war will cost U.S. taxpayers another 69 billion dollars. Despite all the lives we have destroyed and all the money so ill spent, today illicit drugs are cheaper, more potent, and far easier to get than they were 35 years ago at the beginning of the war on drugs. Meanwhile, people continue dying in our streets while drug barons and terrorists continue to grow richer than ever before. We would suggest that this scenario must be the very definition of a failed public policy. This madness must cease!

US: Web: Progressives Push Against Drug War: Will Dems Listen?
Huffington Post, 02 Jul 2009 - It's official. We can now talk openly about what the great majority of us have known for a long time: drug prohibition isn't working, and never will. It's time to try something different. News organizations are awash in stories about the failure of the "drug war." Latest issues of three of the most influential progressive magazines have feature stories on the topic. Mother Jones puts drug policy on its cover -- under the headline "Totally Wasted" ( as in, money and lives ) -- as part of a package including at least 10 separate pieces on topic.

US CA: Column: Time to Fly White Flag on War on Drugs
The Modesto Bee, 23 Jun 2009 - This year marks the 40th anniversary of President Nixon's start of the war on drugs, and it now appears that drugs have won. "We've spent a trillion dollars prosecuting the war on drugs," Norm Stamper, a former police chief of Seattle, told me. "What do we have to show for it? Drugs are more readily available, at lower prices and higher levels of potency. It's a dismal failure."

CN BC: Speakers Tackle Medical Marijuana Issue At Forum
Grand Forks Gazette, 24 Jun 2009 - Current drug enforcement laws and a government system for the provision of medical marijuana are failing Canadians, residents heard from an expert panel last week. Rielle Capler, of the Centre for Addiction Research B.C., and Tony Smith, from Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, presented information about medical marijuana, regulations governing it, and problems within the current legal system to the crowd of over 40 people ranging in age from 20 through 80 at the Thursday, June 18 meeting. The forum was hosted by the city at a cost $1,100. Capler spoke about the use of medical marijuana in treatment of symptoms related to specific conditions, methods of use and possible harms before delving into the current regulatory process for legal access to medical marijuana and the development of compassion clubs as a response to gaps in the current system.

US OK: Officials' Solution to War on Drugs: Legalization
The Ada Evening News, 22 Jun 2009 - Ada -- A group of both current and former law enforcement officials want to end the war on drugs. "The issue has to be addressed," said Wes Johnson, a Tulsa defense attorney and former Tulsa police officer.

Cops say 'NO' to the War on Drugs Damage Done

"Damage Done introduces a group of maverick cops - and former cops - who have put in decades fighting the war on drugs. They may be libertarians, Republicans, socialists or evangelical Christians, but they all believe strongly that drug prohibition is a terrible mistake and that all illicit drugs should be controlled by government, not in the hands of criminals.
