LEAP Statement of Principles
1. LEAP does not promote the use of drugs and is deeply concerned about the extent of drug abuse worldwide. LEAP is also deeply concerned with the destructive impact of violent drug gangs and cartels everywhere in the world. Neither problem is remedied by the current policy of drug prohibition. Indeed, drug abuse and gang violence flourish in a drug prohibition environment, just as they did during alcohol prohibition. LEAP tells China, “Don’t follow the US down the road to Prohibition, it is a road to despair, a road to destruction, a road to disaster.” Hear Jack Cole on Chinese radio! “Today on Beyond Beijing,” English Service, China Radio International 16A, Shijingshan Road, Beijing, China 北京市石景山路甲16号 中国国际广播电台 ![]() Click to hear program Vermont United Church of Christ

Tax and regulate cannabis
Cannabinomics
![]() Cannabinomics is a revolutionary new book by Dr. Christopher G. Fichtner, M.D. that reframes the marijuana debate in a new conversation on the public policy task of cannabis management. It argues that medical, public health, and economic policy trajectories are converging, and proposes a stakeholder-inclusive regulatory process to help America take ownership of this homegrown commodity.

US CA: Marijuana Advocates Flock To Anaheim Expo
The Orange County Register, 29 Aug 2010 - ANAHEIM - They came to learn about marijuana laws, how to start a medical dispensary business, what they could do to change the stigma of the drug. Inside a cavernous hall at the Anaheim Convention Center, more than 1,000 people gathered Saturday for Orange County's first medical marijuana convention, an all-day event called the Know Your Rights Expo. US CT: Connecticut's Drug War Is a Bust Hartford Advocate, 17 Aug 2010 - Politicians, Academics and Former Police Press for a More Candid Discussion About the Costs of Criminalizing Drugs When Clifford Thornton was two weeks shy of graduating high school in 1963, a Hartford police officer showed up at his grandmother's door one Sunday morning. The cop asked Thornton to accompany him to a nearby field. There, inside an abandoned car, was the body of Thornton's mother, dead of an apparent heroin overdose. US PA: Medical-Marijuana Roundtable Sparks Drug Debate Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 20 Aug 2010 - Like many debates about making marijuana legal for medical use, the one at the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public Health on Thursday turned into a discussion of the dangers of drugs. That didn't sit well with state Rep. John Myers, D-Philadelphia, who had come to the Oakland campus at the invitation of state Rep. Jake Wheatley, D-Hill District, to conduct a public hearing on the matter. US CA: Police Group Backs Marijuana Measure New York Times, 20 Aug 2010 - A national group of African-American law enforcement officers has endorsed Proposition 19, a ballot measure that would tax and regulate marijuana in California. The National Black Police Association, which has more than two dozen chapters across the country, announced the endorsement in Sacramento, where the organization is holding a national conference. In a statement, Neill Franklin, the executive director of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, which supports Proposition 19, said that "prohibition takes a toll on people of color across the country." He added: "Californians finally have an opportunity to do something about it." The measure would allow possession of up to an ounce of marijuana for personal use. - --- MAP posted-by: Richard Lake
